Once home to the legendary Tom’s Bar, Boyberry has undergone a major renovation that has divided opinion. The upstairs glory holes are gone — replaced by a DJ booth — making this more of a gay bar where cruising plays a supporting role. The basement darkroom is still there if that’s what you’re after. Drinks come with a mandatory minimum spend, which feels steep. The crowd is mixed and increasingly includes newcomers to the scene, making it a decent entry point for the curious — but seasoned cruisers may find it underwhelming. Fine for drinks with friends and a quick hook-up downstairs, but the old magic of Tom’s is gone.
